Midwives matter! Over the course of the pandemic, Lucía Illescas Correa’s role as a midwife and Director of Teaching at CIMIGEN hospital has evolved. She continues to lead teams that attend to pregnant women in one of the most marginalized areas of Mexico City, and now has also adapted to the demands of virtual teaching. Each day, Lucía faces the reality that in Mexico, the importance of midwives as fundamental health professionals for #MNCH care is not yet recognized. Why does Lucía continue to do this work? Though there are many barriers to overcome, holding a new, healthy life in her hands is Lucía's primary motivator.
