Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS — The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) announced the Nurse Empowerment Program, a large-scale study developed in partnership with the Johnson & Johnson Foundation to help frontline nurses with 10 years’ or less experience grow their leadership skills. Sigma will develop and provide a combination of LinkedIn Learning and nursing continuing professional development (CPD) courses to help participants prepare for difficult situations, collaborate with peers, and advocate for change in the workplace.

Sigma has worked closely with the Johnson & Johnson Foundation to ensure the Nurse Empowerment Program curriculum relates to important challenges and opportunities that early career nurses experience. Individual courses will address the following eight competencies: leadership development, effective communication skills, dealing with conflict, healthy work environments, diversity, change management, team science, and resilience.

The Nurse Empowerment Program targets frontline nurses in the United States and Canada, with particular interest in nurses who represent minority groups. Participation in Sigma’s LinkedIn Learning and CPD courses is free of charge to all registered participants.

“Sigma is pleased to collaborate with the Johnson & Johnson Foundation on a project that will directly benefit frontline nurses,” said Sigma President Richard Ricciardi, PhD, CRNP, FAANP, FAAN. “We hope that the study results will help us better understand the value, relevance, and effectiveness of these courses in helping prepare nurses for leadership early in their careers.”

Applications are due on 1 April and the Nurse Empowerment Program begins in April 2021. Registration is required to receive free access to the LinkedIn Learning and other courses. Learn more at SigmaNursing.org/Empower.
