Recognize and Strengthen Obstetric Nurses and Midwives

In Brazil, the Center has partnered with UNFPA aiming to recognize and strengthen obstetric nurses and midwives, from the perspective of promoting human rights, the rights of women and adolescents, and reproductive health, with a view to offering quality and equitable services in childbirth care and reproductive planning.

The program includes promoting the professional qualifications of midwives and obstetric nurses, training multi-professional teams in human rights/reproductive health and rights, leadership building in advocacy and political dialogue, and through nurturing an enabling environment for midwifery and raising its visibility. The target participants are mainly midwives and obstetric nurses in Brazil, but the project also aims to reach other healthcare workers and civil society leaders.

In addition to geographic diversity, the program is promoting is gender and gender identity representation (cis women, cis men, and trans man), as well as racial diversity (black, white, indigenous, Asian/yellow). At least 350 healthcare facilities benefited since 2021, and more than 2.2 million people reached by the social media campaign.
